Detailed Solution

Pocket-sized books called chapbooks were sold by travelling peddlers in the 19th century. A chapbook was a type of printed street literature made up of small, paper-covered booklets written on a single sheet and folded into books of eight, twelve, sixteen or twenty-four pages. The chapbook tradition arose when printed books became affordable in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These penny chapbooks were typically made with rough woodcuts. These booklets were illustrated and read aloud in front of a group of people. Folk tales, songs, nursery rhymes, pamphlets, and political and religious tracts were all published in chapbooks.
