Detailed Solution

Pointed arches were examples of gothic churches.
Between the middle of the 12th century and the start of the 16th century, Europe produced Gothic cathedrals and churches. Particularly noteworthy about the cathedrals are their lofty ceilings and extensive use of stained glass to illuminate the interior spaces. The Gothic style is characterised by large stained glass windows, pointed arches, vaulted ceilings, flying buttresses, and gargoyles or other elaborate ornamentation. In this instance as well, the recent clearing of centuries' worth of grime has demonstrated what was long believed to be the case: the statues gracing the exterior of Gothic cathedrals were once vividly painted. The cloaks or faces of the biblical characters have reemerged with shards of blue, black, and green. The Gothic architectural style was established by the Basilica of Saint-Denis in nearby Paris (1135–1144). The church, which was rebuilt under the direction of Abbot Suger, was revered for being the location of Saint Denis' martyrdom and the final resting place of practically all French kings dating back to the 7th century.
