Poona Pact was signed in September 1932.
Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar fought on the need for separate electorates for Dalits. In the end, Ambedkar allied with Gandhiji, and the Poona Pact of September 1932 was the outcome. It provided reserved seats in provincial and national legislative bodies for the Depressed Classes (later referred to as Schedule Castes), but these seats had to be chosen by the general electorate.
