Detailed Solution

Potti Sreeramulu demanded the formation of the Andhra state by going on a hunger strike.
Potti Sreeramulu was an Indian freedom fighter and revolutionary. He became popular when he undertook a 56-day hunger strike in favour of an independent Andhra Pradesh; he passed away as a result. Three days after Sreeramulu's death, which had prompted widespread riots, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru announced the creation of the Andhra State. Sreeramulu gave his life in order to separate the main Tamil-speaking state of the Tamil Nadu presidency from the Telugu-speaking state. His battles resulted in the creation of "Andhra Pradesh," a separate Telugu-speaking state.
