Potti Sriramulu died on 15 December 1952.
To preserve the rights of Telugu speakers, a veteran Gandhian named Potti Sriramulu embarked on a hunger fast and demanded the creation of the Andhra state. The fast gained a lot of support as it continued. In numerous towns, hartals and bandhs were seen. Potti Sriramulu died fifty-eight days into his fast on December 15, 1952. According to a newspaper, "the news of Sriramulu's death wrapped all Andhra in turmoil." The central government was compelled to comply with the demand because of how extensive and ferocious the protests were. Thus, Andhra Pradesh became a new state on October 1, 1953.
