Detailed Solution

Practice of untouchability has been Abolished.
Untouchability is a social practice embedded within the caste system in which people belonging to the lower castes are considered impure. It is an extremely vicious practice. Even their touch and sight were considered unclean. Untouchable castes were placed at the bottom of the hierarchical system. They were denied access to most social institutions. They were not allowed to draw water from the same well as the upper castes. They were not permitted to enter any religious place. After independence, Article 17 of the Indian Constitution abolished untouchability. It is now considered a legal crime. Anybody practising untouchability will be subjected to punishment under the law.
