Detailed Solution

Prime Minister Nehru and Deputy Prime Minister Vallabhbhai Patel were against the creation of linguistic states.
India had previously seen religious division. The establishment of linguistic states was opposed by both Prime Minister Nehru and Deputy Prime Minister Vallabhbhai Patel. The speakers of Kannada, Malayalam, and Marathi requested their state. The Telugu-speaking areas of what was then the Madras Presidency staged the loudest protests. To defend the interests of Telugu speakers, Potti Sriramulu went on a hunger strike and demanded the creation of an Andhra state. Andhra became the first Indian state formed on a linguistic basis.
