Printing presses were set up in most of Europe between 1450 and 1550. In the second half of the fifteenth century, Europe's markets were flooded with 20 million copies of printed books.
Booksellers all around Europe began shipping books to a variety of countries as demand for books grew. To accommodate the increased demand, the production of manuscripts was also reorganised in new ways. First, woodblock printing used to print textiles, playing cards, and religious artwork with basic, brief phrases, became increasingly popular in Europe as the need for books grew. Then, in the 1430s, Johann Gutenberg invented the first known printing press, which revolutionised the printing industry.
