Printing was first developed in China.
Chinese literature was first printed in AD 594 on scratch paper, which was also invented there, on the wood's ink surface. As both sides of the thin, hollow sheet of paper could be printed, the Chinese 'accordion book' was folded and sewn on the side. The highly skilled artisans could copy, with remarkable accuracy, the beauty of calligraphy. The Imperial Empire in China was a major producer of printed material. China had a large bureaucratic system that hired its staff through government inspections. The textbooks for this study were published in large quantities under the auspices of the monarchy. Since the sixteenth century, the number of candidates had been increasing, and that had increased the printing capacity. In the seventeenth century, as the urban culture flourished in China, the use of printing varied.
