Prithiviraj Chauhan was defeated by Muhammad Ghori in 1192. In the twelfth century, the Chahamanas sometimes referred to as the Chauhans, ruled over the areas of Delhi and Ajmer. Prithiviraj Chauhan, one of his dynasty's most notable and significant kings, engaged in combat with the Ghurids, a Turkish clan led by Mohammad Ghori that attempted to invade the subcontinent. In the Battle of Tarain, which took place in 1191 and 1192, due to this conflict between the two forces, Prithiviraj Chauhan defeated Muhammad Ghori at the First Battle of Tarain (1119). However, Prithviraj Chauhan lost the Second Battle of Tarain (1192) and eventually perished. This incident strengthened the foundation for Muslim governance in the subcontinent.
