The Sapadalaksha kingdom was ruled by Prithviraja III, also known as Prithviraj Chauhan, and was a member of the Chauhan (Chahamana) dynasty. Prithviraj led a coalition of Rajput rulers in routing Muhammad Ghori's Ghurid army near Taraori in 1191 AD. Ghori, on the other hand, reappeared in 1192 CE with a force of mounted Turkish archers and defeated the Rajput army there. Prithviraj, on the other hand, was arrested and slain after attempting to flee the battlefield. His defeat at Tarain is regarded to have been a watershed moment in the Islamic conquest of India. The most well-known Chahamana king was Prithviraja III (1168–1192), who fought Sultan Muhammad Ghori of Afghanistan in 1191 but was defeated the next year.
