Detailed Solution

The probability of an event is given as: Number of favourable outcomes of an eventTotal possible outcomes

  • The minimum number of favourable outcomes in an event can be zero where none of the outcomes is likely.
  • For example, getting 7 when a die is rolled has zero favourable outcomes as a die does not contain the number 7.
  • In this case, the probability of the event will be zero.
  • The maximum number of favourable outcomes in an event can be equal to the number of total possible outcomes where every outcome is certain.
  • For example, getting a number between 1 to 6 when a die is rolled.
  • In this case, the number of favourable outcomes is the same as the total possible outcomes which are 6. Therefore, the probability of the event will be 1.

Hence the probability of any event will always lie between 0 to 1.
