Detailed Solution

Bhangar and Khadar soils are characteristic features of the vast Northern Plains of India (the Indo-Gangetic Plains).

  • Khadar Regions: These are found in the active floodplains directly adjacent to major rivers.
    • Examples: The low-lying areas along the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the floodplains of the Brahmaputra in Assam, and areas near the Ghaggar river in Haryana.
  • Bhangar Regions: These are the older, more extensive upland plains located away from the current river channels.
    • Examples: The majority of the plains in Punjab and Haryana, and the western and central parts of Uttar Pradesh, which form the higher ground between the rivers (known as the doab).
