Punch-marked coins were made of Silver. Punch-marked coins are an example of early coinage in India. These were made between the period 2nd and 6thcenturies BC. It was the time when the first coins in India were minted. It was minted by Mahajanapadas of the Indo-Gangetic plain. The coin at this time was known as punch-marked coins.  It was also known by names like Puranas, Karshapanas, or Pana. Silver was used to making these coins and they were also lightweight.
