Detailed Solution

Punjab and Leh receive less rainfall than the Western Ghats.
The rainfall received in India is orographic, where the high mountain ranges obstruct the monsoon winds to cause rainfall. The precipitation is unevenly distributed, with some regions, such as the northeast hills and the windward sides of Western Ghats, receiving very high rainfall of more than 400 cm annually and some regions, like the Thar desert receiving less than 50 cm annual rainfall. Punjab is a region of scanty rainfall, receiving around 60-80 cm rainfall annually. Leh has a cold climate with 40-50 cm annual rainfall. Mawsynram in Meghalaya receives the highest precipitation, more than double the national average. The uneven topography of India results in this uneven distribution of rainfall.
