FIR is the First Information Report .
It is the first registered report in a police station by a person who informs of a cognizable offence. It is necessary for the officer incharge of every police station to register it before starting an investigation.The information can be provided to the officer in written or in oral. The FIR consists of:
1)      It contains the time, date and place of the offence along with the basic details of the events of the offence.
2)      It also registers the name of the accused person, if known.
3)      The name and address of the complainant is also mentioned. The complainant needs to sign the FIR after which he can receive the copy of it.
