Gram is a Rabi crop. The crops sown in the months from October to December in winter and harvested in the months from April to June in summer are called Rabi Crops. A few major rabi crops are wheat, barley, peas, gram and mustard. A few states which are prominent in the production of rabi crops are Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh. The success of these crops depends upon the precipitation during the winter months due to the western temperate cyclones.
