Detailed Solution

A sharp knife cuts better than a blunt knife. Due to the following reasons:
Blunt knife has a greater surface area in comparison to sharp knife.
A sharp knife applies more pressure by virtue of its smaller contact surface.
We know that pressure is defined as the force acting per unit area. A sharp knife has less surface area than a blunt knife. So, a sharp knife applies greater pressure when used for cutting. This is why it cuts better. A blunt knife, on the other hand, has a greater surface area and hence applies less pressure. A sharp knife cuts objects easily due to its very thin edge, as the force of our hand applies to a very small area of the object, thus exerting large pressure.
