Pressure is the force acting on a unit area of any surface. When the surface area falls, the pressure rises simultaneously and when the surface area rises, pressure drops. Hence, Pressure is inversely proportional to the area of cross-section.Pressure is given by the formula

Pressure = \frac{T h rust (force)}{area}

Take the bundle of paper and press it with the blunt end of the pencil. And then, press the paper with the sharpened end of the pencil. We can observe that when the paper is pressed with the blunt end of the pencil, it can make an impression on the bundle. But when we used the sharpened end of the pencil, with much less effort, we were able to make a hole in the paper. This happened because the surface area of the sharpened side is less as compared to the blunt side, and therefore with much less effort, a great pressure is applied.
