Rajas performed the Ashvamedha Yagna ritual.
The horse was allowed to run free around the neighbourhood during the ritual. Any Raja or King who permitted the horse to travel across his domain indicated that he had acknowledged the ambitious Raja's absolute rule. He had to combat Raja's army if someone stood in the horse's way. The victor of that conflict would eventually become the supreme Raja. The yana also included invitations to more kings. Specially qualified priests carried out the ceremonies. For the Rаjа, the ordinary people, the vishyаs were expected to send gifts. Meanwhile, the Shudras were prohibited from participating in the ritual.
