Ramabai set up a Mission in Khedgaon near Pune in the year 1898. Ramabai, who lived from 1858 to 1922, pushed for women's access to education. She never attended school, but her parents taught her how to read and write. She was given the title "Pandita" for being able to read and write in Sanskrit, which was a significant achievement given that women were not previously allowed to possess such knowledge. She founded a mission in 1898 at Khedgaon, a village close to Pune, where widows and less fortunate women were encouraged to become literate and independent. They acquired various skills, including carpentry and using a printing press.
