Rani Lakshmibai belonged to Jhansi.
She fought in Gwalior and was the principal figure associated with the Central Indian uprising. Rani Laxmibai was born Manikarnika Tambe on November 19, 1828, in the village of Bithoor, close to Kanpur. After Sir Hugh Rose requested that Jhansi surrender completely in the first war for independence in 1851, she arrived on the front lines. She heroically fought the British while carrying her son Damodar tied to her back and holding swords in her hands. On June 17, 1858, she was slain after putting up a valiant struggle against the British.
