Raziyya Sultan was removed from the throne in 1240 CE.
Raziyya was the only woman in the medieval history of the subcontinent to become a ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. She took over the throne in 1236 CE and ruled until 1240 CE. However, Raziyya's promotion to Sultana was criticised by the nobles of her court as, according to them, it was against Islamic custom. Moreover, because they believed that working under a woman was a great shame, many Turkish chiefs turned against her. Hence, these nobles deposed her and plotted against her, and she was eventually killed in 1240 CE.
