Let E = student has failed in Economics, M= student has failed in Mathematics $∴ P (E) = \frac{50}{100} = \frac{1}{2}, P (M) = \frac{35}{100} = \frac{7}{20}$

and $P (E \cap M) = \frac{25}{100} = \frac{1}{4}$

Now

$P (E \cup M) = P (E) + P (M) - P (E \cap M) = \frac{1}{2} + \frac{7}{20} - \frac{1}{4} = \frac{10 + 7 - 5}{20} = \frac{3}{5}$
