Acceleration in free fall remains constant in both upward and downward motion.

Free fall: When the only force acting on the object is gravity due to the earth, then the object is said to be in the state of free fall.

When an object falls freely toward the earth's surface, the only force acting on the object is gravity.
From the equation of gravity, we have 

 g=GMeRe2, G is the universal constant, Re is the distance between the surface of the earth and its centre, and Me is the mass of the earth
we can say that the mass and radius of the earth remain constant. Where G is the gravitational constant. 
So, the equation of g will remain constant throughout.
This is true even when an object is thrown upward or has zero velocity. Since gravity pulls the object towards the earth with a constant acceleration g.
