Thyroid gland secretes a protein hormone called thyrocalcitonin (TCT) or calcitonin. TCT lowers the calcium levels in the blood by increased calcium deposition in the bones and also stimulates the excretion of calcium in the urine.

PTH on the other hand increases the blood calcium levels. Together PTH and TCT maintain calcium homeostasis.
