Turgor pressure is the hydrostatic pressure generated by the water inside the plant cell against the cell wall. It is the driving force responsible for enlargement and extension growth of plant cells. When the plant cell takes up water, it swells and the cell wall stretches, causing the cell to elongate. This process is essential for plant growth and development.

Root pressure is the hydrostatic pressure generated by the roots of a plant, which can push water and nutrients up the xylem vessels. Root pressure can be observed in some plants during the night and early morning when transpiration (evaporation of water from the leaves) is low. During this time, the hydrostatic pressure in the xylem vessels can build up, leading to the exudation of water from the leaf pores or hydathodes. This process is known as guttation.
