The opposition had to face a lot of harassment by the Government of Zimbabwe. The government formed under President Mugabe was quite autocratic and harassing. Robert Mugabe was a member and head of the liberation part of Zimbabwe, which played a significant role in the country's independence. Since then (1980), the party ZANU-PF continued to remain in power under Mugabe. He was quite popular, but he involved himself in unfair election tactics. He had the opposition leaders harassed and often disrupted their meetings and discussions.
