Detailed Solution

Rearing of silk worms for the production of silk fibre is known as Sericulture.
India's four major fibre crops are cotton, jute, hemp, and natural silk. The only fibre crop not obtained from the soil is raw silk. Instead, silk is obtained from the cultivation or rearing of silkworms, known as Sericulture or silk farming. The most widely used and intensively studied silkworm is the caterpillar of the domestic silkmoth, despite many other commercial species of silkworms. Sericulture forms an integral part of the cottage industry. The major countries prominent for producing silk are Brazil, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Russia.
