Quartz, tridymite and cristobalite are all crystalline forms of silica however, onyx is a crypto-crystalline form of silica (Cryptocrystalline is a rock texture made up of such minute crystals that its crystalline nature is only vaguely revealed even microscopically  by transmitted polarized light).
