Mahatma Gandhi said that religion can never be separated from politics. This is true also, especially in the Indian context, as India is a multi-religious and multi-cultural country. There are so many issues and problems and incidents of religious riots that occur daily, and most of the time, these issues have a political connection. Either some opposition parties try to increase the anger and heat in the agitating mob and religious groups, or sometimes the government is obliged to take decisions related to religious affairs and problems. So, it’s difficult to keep religion separate from politics in a diverse country like India. Though we are living in a secular state, India doesn’t follow a strict separation of religion from the state. We don’t have any official religion in the country, and all religions are given equal respect. But whenever necessary, the government intervenes in religious matters, especially when the religious issues affect the order of the country.
