Reservations for the OBCs in government jobs are up to 27%. The OBCs who fall under the non-creamy layer category can only secure them. The financially well-off OBCs cannot avail their reservations as they fall under the creamy layer category. OBCs under the creamy layer category are ineligible for reservation benefits if their annual income is 8 lakh rupees or above. OBCs, or Other Backward Classes, are given a quota for their elevation because, historically, they have been continuously mistreated and denied any opportunity. Reservations are available and are based on a person's financial position. Only those poor OBC members or those from the non-creamy layer are entitled to quota advantages. Reservations are a means of rescuing minorities from marginalisation.
