Detailed Solution

Resistivity, also known as Specific resistance, is the fundamental property of a material that measures how strongly it resists electric current. It is represented by  (rho). The SI unit of resistivity is Ωm. The resistivity of any substance is numerically the same as the resistance of a rod of that substance which is 1 metre long and 1 square metre in cross-section.
The formula for resistivity is,
               Resistivity (ρ)=×Al
Where,
R= resistance of the conductor
A= area of cross-section of the conductor
l = length of the conductor
The resistivity of a substance is independent of its length or thickness. It depends on temperature and the nature of the substance.
