The kings used to share their power with their Samantas and with the associations of peasants, Traders, and Brahmanas irrespective of their titles like Maharaja-adhiraja and Tribhuvana-chakravartin. Power-sharing aimed to avoid conflicts with these communities. But all the traders had to pay the revenue. The traders trade the resources collected from the producers, such as peasants, cattle-herders, artisans, etc..and submit a portion of their profit as the revenue and revenue can be paid in the forms of products like food grains, etc. Sometimes these producers were forced to submit a part of their products other than the state-defined tax to the lord who claimed that he owned the lord.
