Detailed Solution

Revolutionaries in 19th-century Europe spread their ideas via secret societies. Many liberal nationalists went underground in the years that followed 1815 due to fear of persecution. Many European nations saw the rise of secret societies to educate revolutionaries and spread their ideas. At this time, being a revolutionary meant pledging to fight against the monarchical structures put in place following the Vienna Congress and to support liberty and freedom. Most of these revolutionaries considered the establishment of nation-states essential to the fight for independence. Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Mazzini was one such person. He joined the Carbonari, a secret organisation in Italy.
