The invention of the power-driven cylindrical press is credited to New Yorker Richard M. Hoe. This had an output rate of 8,000 sheets per hour. Newspaper printing benefited from its use. A six-color offset press was set up; it could print one colour at a time. Presses that run on electricity significantly speed up printing operations, improving paper feeding techniques. The plates' quality improved. The introduction of automatic paper reels and photoelectric colour register controllers. All of the advances above changed how printed texts looked.
