Robert Clive became the governor of Bengal in 1757 after he fought the battle of Plassey and won. After that, he. He gave the throne of Bengal to Mir Jafar but did not give him the power to rule over Bengal. Mir Jafar acted as a puppet for the Britishers. Clive imposed the dual government system in which he gave Nizamat the right to be Nawab of Bengal, and his own Diwani rights meant the right to collect the revenue. He was also appointed deputy governor of Bengal. Mohd. Raza was Bengal's deputy governor, and Raja Shitab Roy was deputy governor of the present area of Bihar.
