Robert Clive was appointed as the Governor of Bengal for the second time in 1764.
Robert Clive was a company official who came to India in 1743. He was appointed as the first Governor of Bengal in the year 1755.  He became the Governor of Bengal for the second time in 1764. He is known for the seizing of Arcot during the Carnatic war.  He was also involved in the Battle of Plassey in the year 1757. He mobilized the forces against Siraj-ud-Daula, Nawab of Bengal. He also secured the negotiations with Mir Jafar who was the commander of Nawab. Clive promised to appoint Mir Jafar the Nawab of Bengal after the defeat of Siraj. After the battle of Buxar, Clive was the one who opted for the territorial expansion of the Company in Bengal.
