Rohu:

Rohu belongs to the carp family and is commonly found in the rivers of South Asia. It is an omnivorous fish widely used in aquaculture and valued as a nutritious food. Rich in protein, omega fatty acids, and vitamins, rohu is often consumed as part of a weekly diet. These fishes generally spawn during the monsoon season.

Catla:

Catla is recognized by its large, broad head. It usually grows to considerable size, reaching a good length and weight, and becomes sexually mature at about two years of age. Catla feeds only in the upper levels of water, consuming small insects and floating plants near the surface.

Hilsa:

Hilsa is known for its long migratory swims. It travels upstream from the sea to freshwater rivers for spawning, after which it returns to saline waters. Importantly, eggs hatch only in freshwater, making this migration essential for its life cycle.

Together, rohu, catla, and hilsa are among the most important fishes used for food and aquaculture.
