Detailed Solution

Rowlatt Act came into effect on March 10 1919. The Rowlatt Act was just another example of arbitrary British power. The British government was able to hold persons without a fair trial under this law. The Rowlatt rules were strongly criticised by Mahatma Gandhi and other Indian nationalists. The Rowlatt Act entered into effect on March 10, 1919, despite various concerns. Protests against the Act remained heated throughout Punjab, and on April 10, two of the movement's leaders, Drs. Satyapal and Saifuddin Kitchlew were arrested. On April 13, a large protest was held in Amritsar's Jallianwala Bagh to protest the arrests. General Dyer entered the park with his forces. They obstructed the only exit, and General Dyer ordered the men to begin the fire. Several hundred persons were killed as a result of the firing.
