Detailed Solution

The Rowlatt Act was introduced on March 18, 1919.
The British government introduced the Rowlatt Act under the Government of India Act 1919. The Rowlatt Act was imposed in March 1919, in which police could arrest any person based on suspicion and the detained person without trial. The British authorities could thus imprison the suspects for two years. The Rowlatt Act was passed despite the opposition from Indian leaders. However, the act saw a significant reaction in India and caused a wave of anger among people. Gandhi also launched a nationwide Satyagraha against this act. Gandhiji started a non-violent civil disobedience movement with a Hartal on April 6, 1919. Moreover, rallies and strikes were organised in various cities.
