Rowlatt act was launched in 1919. In 1919, the Government of India passed a law dealing with the “revolutionary crime ” in the country against the British. According to it, the government has the right to search and arrest without a warrant and detention without trial for up to two years. And this act was passed hurriedly through the Imperial Legislative. Gandhiji and other nationalists criticised the bills, and he decided to start a nationwide satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act. He wanted to launch a non-violent civil Disobedience against it by refusing to disobey these laws civilly. It began with a hartal on 6 April.
