Rulers of Bengal and Awadh tried to do away with the Jagirdari system.
As part of the jagirdari programme, the Mughal emperors used jagirdars to generate money. To strengthen their authority over the revenue division, the Nawab of Bengal and Awadh eliminated the jagirdars appointed by the emperor. They, therefore, wanted to do away with the jagirdari strategy. The landlords received jagirs through the jagirdari system, which was in place as payment for their services to the Mughal empire. Jagir was given to the Mansabdars and the entire Mughal elite to compensate. The task of upholding the law and collecting land taxes from these lands fell to these nobles. It begins following Babur and officially with Akbar's rule. The Nawabs of Bengal and Awadh attempted to eliminate the jagirdari system to lessen cheating and the influence of the Mughals in their kingdoms. Because the Mughals' authorised jagirdars were corrupt, the Nawabs reduced the scope of jagirs and allocated the tasks to be done by obedient servants. The financial records of the Jagirdar were scrutinised, and district earnings were reevaluated by officials nominated by the Nawab's court.
