Rural Local Government is known by the name of Panchayati Raj. There is a Gram Panchayat for each village or cluster of villages. All the adults in the village vote for the Panch, President, or Sarpanch, the decision-making body. All voters are members of the Panchayat, run by Gram Sabha and under its direction. The local structure extends to the district level; a Panchayat Samiti, Block, or Mandal comprises many Gram Panchayats. The Panchayat Samitis or Mandals comprise the Zila Parishad, which contains elected officials. Members of the Lok Sabha, local MLAs, and officers are all included in the Zilla Parishad. The political leader of the Parishad is its chairperson.
