Detailed Solution

San Jose State University honoured Tommie Smith and John Carlos by installing Statue on their campus.
At the Mexico Olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos were two African American athletes who protested against the apartheid system. They wore black socks to the award ceremony. They stood with raised fists during the national anthem. Their act was received with much disappointment by the general American population. However, their protest was a milestone in the history of the American Civil Rights Movement. They were able to put the struggle against racism in the context of human rights. Their act was a remarkable display of black power. They were alumni of San Jose State University. The State University of San Jose built a twenty-foot statue of Tommie Smith and John Carlos on the campus in honour of them.
