Sardar Sarovar dam is situated on the river Narmada. It is located in Gujarat. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in the year 2017. Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, laid the foundation of the Sardar Sarovar dam on 5 April 1961. Its construction began in April 1987. It is a development scheme funded by the World Bank. It is considered to be the second-largest concrete dam in the world. The primary purpose of this development scheme is to increase irrigation and also the production of hydroelectricity. But, in 1993, when locals protested immensely upon the construction of this dam, the World Bank withdrew its funding.
