Sarojini Naidu was appointed as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh native and liberation fighter Sarojini Naidu (1879–1949) was born. She was a political activist, writer, and poet. She joined the Indian National Congress and rose to become its top female leader. In addition, she led the Indian National Congress for the first time as president in 1925. In 1927, she also laid the groundwork for the All India Women's Conference. Later, from 1947 to 1949, she was appointed Governor of Uttar Pradesh. She is referred to as the Indian Nightingale. She passed away in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in 1949.
