Sarpanch is the President of a village panchayat.
We have seen that the Gram Sabha, which is presided over by the Gram Panchayat, is a permanent and important body at the village level. The entire village is divided into wards, and each ward elects a representative known as a panch or ward member. The Gram Sabha elects the Sarpanch, who serves as the Panchayat's chief. Thus, the Panch and Sarpanch who are elected for a tenure of five years make up the Gram Panchayat. In addition to this, there is one secretary who is also the secretary of the Gram Sabha and who calls all of the meetings of both the Gram Sabha and the Gram Panchayat but who is chosen by the government rather than elected like the other members.
