Detailed Solution

Sati Pratha was banned in 1829.
The then-Governor-General Lord William Bentinck signed the Bengal Sati Regulation on December 4, 1829, outlawing the practice of sati in all areas under British rule. The legislation referred to Sati practice as abhorrent to human nature's sensibilities.According to legend, India's Sati system dates back to the fourth century BC. However, this sacrifice was carried out by the widows of the Kings between the fifth and ninth centuries AD, according to historical data. One of the most common customs in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan is Jauhar. The Hindu custom of immolating a woman over her husband's funeral pyre was known as Sati. Although there is no Vedic approval for this practice, it's abandoned.
