Secularism is the belief that no one should be discriminated against based on their religion. Discrimination based on religious identity is against the principle of secularism. India is a secular country. It does not discriminate against people based on their religious identities and gives equal opportunities, resources, and rights to every individual irrespective of religion. In India, where people are free to choose and follow any religion, it becomes significant that people of majority religion do not dominate the people of minority religion. The state does not support or favour majority religions and discriminates against minority religions. The secularism principle was adopted in 1976 by the Indian constitution that separated religion from the state and gave equal freedom to every individual to follow the religion of their choice.
